Episcopal Animism
At times, I feel inadequate to the material at hand. Episcopalians are feeding the Lord’s Supper to their pets, as reported in today’s Wall Street Journal (March 10, pg 1). This fact is so pregnant with possibilities for mockery, indignation, wrath, scorn, derision, parody, damnation, or sorrow that I do not know where to begin. A religion that began with the elevating idea that man is made in the image of God now shares the most sacred ritual of communion between God and man with animals. I love animals, but this is theological bestiality. Sometimes fewer words are better. Rather than mockery or wrath or parody, I opt for simple, amazed silence.
